Mountain Wedding – Jenner in Schönau
The more regular visitors of my blog probably noticed that my heart skips a beat every time we get to witness a couple saying “I Do” on top of a mountain. During the past years I have had the privilege to photograph different kind of weddings in the mountains. And now it is finally possible to get married on top of the Jenner, including a stunning view.
Where is Mountain Jenner located?
The 1874 metre high Jenner is located at the foot of the Königssee within the Berchtesgaden Alps, in Bavaria. You can reach the top by hiking or taking a convenient cable car. In 2019 the cable car called Jennerbahn was relaunched.
Most couples decide to take to cable car. So it brings bride and groom to the summit, where they can get married on the Jenneralm. From the station to the summit it’s a short hike of 15 minutes.
Wedding at the Jenner – Details
Civil weddings can only be officiated on Tuesdays between 9am to 3pm. The registry office jurisdiction is “Schönau am Königssee”, the wedding room is modern and fitted with a glass front that grants the most beautiful mountain view.
For wedding pictures you have the choice to shoot them up on the Jenner mountain. Another option would be to have a photoshooting at the Obersee. The Obersee is a lake, known as the little brother of the Königssee, and accessible by a boat cruise across the Königssee. The trip takes approximately 50 minutes.
Elopement Wedding at Jenner
This cute couple did get married quietly and secretly just the two of them. I was happy to capture all the moment. All in all we spent a very relaxed day. For me it is always a great honor to document the wedding for the families at home when they are not there. After our gondola ride to the top, things got serious and we went to the civil ceremony. The wedding ceremony was accompanied by beautiful music and personal words from the registrar.

After the wedding ceremony, we took advantage of the good weather and the view for our bridal couple shooting. The Jenner offers many spots for photos. Normally there are a lot of hikers around but I can always find quiet spots for more privacy.
Wedding pictures at Lake Obersee
At this wedding on the Jenner, we scheduled another location for the bride and groom shooting. We went to the Obersee, at the rear lake of the Königssee. It can only be reached by boat.
